Vision on sexual health: Towards a new definition of sexual health?

Recently, the Dutch government started a discussion on the definition of health, leading to another perspective on health, the so-called ‘positive health’. The main stakeholders in sexual health share this perspective. In this article a new definition of sexual health is pleaded, in order to increase the focus on patients’ perspective on health, and to emphasize more realistic aims of sexual health. Possible implications for healthcare, education, research and policy are discussed.
